Susan G Komen and Northgate Gonzalez Markets for the cure!

In an effort to reach uninsured, rarely or never screened, low income Latino women Susan G. Komen Orange County has partnered with Northgate Gonzalez Markets to provide mobile mammography at their stores since 2010. This model is very effective because you eliminate major barriers for these women by providing free services in a trusted location that is easily accessible to them. The women receive breast health education, free clinical breast exams and mammograms and if a woman has an abnormal finding she is referred directly to diagnostic services. The majority of the women served by this effort are rarely or have never been screened for breast cancer. By providing a woman’s first mammogram, there is a high probability of encouraging her to change her life-long screening behavior and make getting a mammogram an annual practice. The goal is to ultimately reduce rates of late stage diagnosis among the most Latino women in Orange County by introducing the population to accurate breast health education messages, empowering them to take action, and linking them to readily accessible no-cost screening services. This year we have many outreach and sign up dates and nine onsite mammography screening events at stores in the cities of Santa Ana, San Diego, Inglewood, Anaheim, South Los Angeles, Vista and Buena Park. Thank you to the collaboration of Susan G Komen and Northgate Gonzalez for helping us Save Lives!
