October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
Northgate is doing it's part in creating awareness -after all- screenings and prevention can detect breast cancer early, when the chances of survival are highest. That’s why Northgate is partnering with Susan G. Komen to provide free breast cancer education and mammograms in our communities!
Did you Know?
  • One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime

  • One case of breast cancer is diagnosed in a woman every two minutes in the U.S.

  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women no matter race or ethnicity. It is the most common cause of cancer death for Hispanic women & second most common cause of cancer death among white, African American, and Asian/Pacidfic Islander women.

  • All women are at risk for breast cancer. Risk increases with age.

  • Breast cancer is often detected at a more advanced stage in Hispanic women in the U.S because of lower use of mammography screening and longer intervals between mammograms, as well as the lack of timely follow-up of an abnormal mammogram.

  • Starting at age 40, women at average risk should get screened every year. Women with a family history of breast cancer or higher risk should talk to a doctor to see if earlier screening is needed.

  • Early detection and effective treatment have resulted in a 33 percent decline in breast cancer mortality in the U.S. since 1990.Source: CDC & Susan G Komen
